Around 12:30 PM ET, Microsoft reported that they are investigating reports on failures of the azure portal and parts of Office 365. Down detector as shows a major spike in reported outages across both Microsoft 365 and Xbox services.
According to The Verge, reddit users based in the UK are also experiencing issues with Azure’s portal which indicates that this might be a global issue.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more is discovered.
*Update* 1129 AZ time
Microsoft has identified the issue as being related to DNS. As of now they are rolling out a fix to attempt to mitigate the issue but there are still some endpoints that are affected in the meantime.
DNS stands for domain name server and is what allows us humans to type in words instead of IP addresses when going to websites. The cause of the AWS outage from the prior week was also attributed to a DNS issue.
