Review: PowerLocus P1 Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones

With the worldwide mess that is the pandemic causing many of us to shift our routine to include more technology, Amazon’s Choice products have definitely provided a market for this need. This is true for what Amazon calls “distance learning.” And due to the fact that a lot of schooling has gone virtual, it makes sense for students to have a decent pair of bluetooth headphones. In that spirit, here is my review of the PowerLocus P1 Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones.

Unboxing and Initial Thoughts

I ordered the headphones through Amazon and with Prime, they came in a couple of days. The overall packaging of the product was nice and simple. It comes with a nice case, a 3.5 mm AUX cable, a short micro USB cable for charging, and a bit of documentation. Initial feelings on the case were of surprise as it has a high quality feel for a product at this price point. It is not a true hard case but has an exceptional zipper and would protect anything inside from dirt or debris. The actual headphones are a different story. They are made of a cheap plastic with a bit of a shoddy headband adjustment system. The ear cups do not articulate more than a couple of degrees and only in a direction parallel to the headband itself. A bit of rubber at the top of the headband provides a little cushion while the ear cups are…fine I suppose. They are not particularly deep but have a pretty decent feel to them.

Features

For a sub $50 pair of Bluetooth headphones, the PowerLocus P1 is quite feature rich. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 and has a 300 mAH battery. It has the capability to do hands free calling while including an FM radio receiver and a Micro SD slot. The micro SD slot is a feature I never thought would be useful on a pair of Bluetooth headphones but it is nice to have the music built into the device when your phone dies. It does have a AUX port so if the battery in the headphones die you can still keep using them with the included cable. There are 5 buttons on the device (power, volume +, volume -, fm/mp3, call).

Comfort and Sound

I have used the headphones for about 2 weeks now and I have mixed feelings on them. The cheap headband combined with the lack of full motion of the ear cups makes for a sub-par comfort experience. Personally, I can only stand to wear the headphones for a couple of hours before they get a bit aching. The ear cups never laid flat on my ears due to the lack of articulation. This resulted in a pinching feeling. However, it was not a deal breaker for me and your results may vary. The sound quality was better than expected but don’t bank on a euphoric audio experience. The bass was a bit muffled at times and the mid-ranges were also somewhat absent. Volume was never a problem as the headphones can get quite loud. There was no active noise cancellation so your tunes are going to have to do the work.

Conclusion

Overall, I would say that the PowerLocus P1 Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones are a good second pair of headphones. The pair that you throw in your gym bag or in the closet in case your daily driver set fails. However, they are available at a great time for parents with young students. With the world going virtual, a cheap and decent Bluetooth headset is perfect for the elementary student who might not take the best care of their technology. It does come in up to 9 different colors so your student (and you) can show off a little bit of their personality on that Zoom call. Check them out on Amazon or on the PowerLocus website. I give the PowerLocus P1 Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones a C+ in quality but an A+ in value.
